Dopo un po’ di tempo siamo andati nuovamente a trovare Kempes Astolfi, regista, autore, imprenditore che vive a Dubai. Quello che ci lascia stupiti è come possa conciliare il tutto con una naturalezza che, onestamente, a volte ci spiazza. Kempes, che scrive e racconta storie da quando aveva dodici anni, ci confessa che il suo più grande sogno artistico si sta per realizzare. Essere poco scontati può essere un rischio ma anche una grande responsabilità per chi decide di farne uno stile di vita. Originali, spesso unici, poco scontati... Non cambia molto: fare impresa oggi all’estero con un occhio all’ambizione e all’arte, senza mai perdere di vista sogni che diventano obiettivi e centrandone alcuni… Davvero si può?
D: Allora esiste il famoso multi tasking?
K: (sorride, ndr) No, il multitasking non esiste. O meglio non esiste la capacità di poter fare più cose contemporaneamente inteso come nello stesso momento. Ma se espandiamo il tempo e allarghiamo questo concetto alla diciamo capacità di fare molti compiti o task, operazioni diverse in un lasso di tempo ristretto, switchando, senza mai perdere il focus… Allora sì, in quel caso il multi tasking esiste. Un po’ come entrare in una stanza accendere la luce e fruire di ciò che serve velocemente e senza perdite di tempo, poi uscire spegnendo l’interruttore, camminando qualche passo al buio, per sapere già dove entrare, in una nuova stanza e accendere di nuovo la luce, ricominciando da capo, ma in un nuovo contesto e con nuove cose da fare.
D: Un paragone da scrittore. Chi ti ha ispirato tanto? E, a proposito di scrittura e creatività, come vanno i nuovi progetti? Nuovi libri all’orizzonte? A dicembre ’23 hai festeggiato i dieci anni di carriera da scrittore. In questo decennio di carriera letteraria hai pubblicato quindici libri, alcuni tradotti anche in altre lingue.. Cosa rappresenta per te questo traguardo e quali sono i tuoi piani per il futuro?
K: Dieci anni di scrittura rappresentano per me un viaggio incredibile, fatto non solo di libri ma di crescita personale e professionale. Ogni opera è un pezzo di me che lascio ai lettori. Per il futuro, ho in serbo progetti ambiziosi, diversi libri in uscita e soprattutto mio primo film, ‘Sognando Quentin’, che rappresenta una nuova sfida entusiasmante. E poi, chi lo sa? La scrittura, a volte, è un viaggio senza destinazione precisa, e io sono pronto a lasciarmi sorprendere.
D: Dal nostro ultimo incontro nel 2019, tra le altre cose, hai lanciato un corso di scrittura a Dubai, ‘Scrittura: Manuale d’Uso’, grande successo. Cosa ti ha spinto a intraprendere questa iniziativa e quali risultati hai ottenuto?
K: L’idea di ‘Scrittura: Manuale d’Uso’ nasce dalla mia passione per la narrazione e dalla volontà di condividere questo amore con gli altri. Dubai si è rivelata il terreno fertile perfetto per questo progetto, attirando studenti da ogni angolo del mondo. Il successo è stato tale da ripetere il corso per due anni consecutivi, creando una vera e propria comunità di scrittori emergenti. È stata un’esperienza incredibilmente gratificante, che ha superato ogni mia aspettativa.
D: Ci ha molto colpito questo aspetto, rimarcato all’inizio di due tuoi libri: durante la pandemia, hai trasformato la scoperta del social audio Club House in un’opportunità unica, dando vita a due libri, ‘Se Potessi Essere Infinito’ Volume 1 e 2. Puoi raccontarci di più su come è nata questa idea e l’impatto che ha avuto?
K: Club House è stato per me una rivelazione. In un momento di distanza forzata, questa piattaforma mi ha permesso di connettermi con le persone in modo profondo e significativo. ‘Se Potessi Essere Infinito’ nasce da queste connessioni: è un insieme di riflessioni e messaggi motivazionali che ho voluto condividere con un pubblico più ampio. La risposta è stata straordinaria, tanto che abbiamo deciso di tradurre i volumi anche in inglese. È stata una conferma del potere delle parole di unire e ispirare, anche nei momenti più bui. Dopo il volume II ne sono previsti altri, di messaggi che danno la carica: io sono solo la presa di corrente, voi attaccate la spina, rifocillatevi e ricaricatevi leggendo quello che non vi direbbe mai nessuno.
D: Torniamo al cinema. Parlando di ‘Sognando Quentin’, il tuo primo progetto cinematografico, cosa puoi dirci di questa avventura?
K: ‘Sognando Quentin’ è un sogno che sta diventando realtà. Lavoriamo da dietro le quinte a questo film, insieme alla Hermes Production e a Cristiano Sebastianelli, da tempo. E la creazione di questo gioiello, il vederlo nascere, nonostante tutte le difficoltà e i personaggi (a volte assurdi) incontrati nel suo percorso, è un’esperienza che va oltre ogni aspettativa. Senza svelare troppo, posso dire che sarà un film che parla al cuore, parlerà di pari opportunità e di realizzazione dei sogni, unendo la passione per il cinema a quella per la narrazione. È un progetto che farà parlare molto di se non vedo l’ora di condividerlo con il mondo.
D: La tua vita tra Italia e Dubai sembra essere un equilibrio perfetto. Come riesci a mantenere vivo il legame con le tue radici pur abbracciando una realtà così diversa?
K: Il mio cuore è diviso tra due mondi: l’Italia, con le sue tradizioni e la sua cultura, e Dubai, simbolo di innovazione e apertura internazionale. Non si tratta tanto di bilanciare, quanto di integrare questi due aspetti della mia vita. Dubai mi offre lo spazio per esprimere la mia creatività in modi che in Italia sarebbero forse impensabili, ma è l’Italia che mi fornisce le radici e i valori su cui costruire ciò che faccio negli Emirati. E poi qui, le soddisfazioni sono tante: a breve dovrò intervenire come relatore in diversi eventi live e… Sai una cosa?
D: Cosa?
K: Credo che ci siano certe cose come i sorrisi, l’armonia, la creatività che definisco contagiosi. Come anche il passaparola: delle persone hanno saputo cosa sto facendo con i miei interventi live come speaker e oratore, e mi stanno invitando, come una ruota, anche in Italia. E così, un passaparola continuo dai lettori o fan dei miei libri, o con i lavori della blues impulse e delle mie altre attività imprenditoriali.
D: A proposito di altre attività imprenditoriali. Rumors arrivati fino in Italia, ci hanno colpito e, sinceramente, sono stati quelli che ci hanno fatto tornare da te, quando abbiamo saputo che anche tu eri dentro questo progetto: si vocifera, infatti, che ci sia una gelateria italiana stia facendo parlare tutta la città di sé, con gelato di altissima qualità: La Casa del Gelato è diventata un punto di riferimento a Dubai. Qual è il segreto del suo successo e tu, cosa c’entri?
K: Insieme ai due miei soci, Roberta e Luca, abbiamo aperto la Casa del Gelato, con autentico gelato artigianale a Dubai, seguendo le ricette della vecchia azienda di famiglia, aperta dal 1936 fino a qualche tempo fa in Italia. Lo straordinario risultato di pubblico è la prova che portare un pezzo di Italia nel mondo è sempre una buona idea. Il segreto sta nella qualità, nell’autenticità e, naturalmente, nella passione. Ogni gelato che serviamo è un invito a scoprire i veri sapori italiani, ed è gratificante vedere clienti di ogni nazionalità apprezzare la nostra offerta. Anche il riconoscimento dell’avere un top brand come cliente, Bulgari è una conferma che stiamo facendo le cose nel modo giusto.
D: Chiudiamo come abbiamo aperto: i libri, il cinema, Casa del Gelato, le attività di marketing e comunicazione con la Blues Impulse, i clienti che segui negli Emirati e in Italia. Sicuro che il multitasking non esista?
Prima di risponderti dimenticavo di dirti che ringrazio sempre i miei compagni d’avventura senza i quali tutto questo non sarebbe stato possibile, in ogni campo che seguo: collaboratori, amici, tutti coloro che fanno sì che riesca a fare tutto. E per rispondere alla tua domanda, no, il multitasking non esiste, confermo. Basta organizzarsi e saper accendere gli interruttori giusti, al momento giusto, proprio subito dopo averne spenti altri. E portare a termine ogni cosa che si inizia, anche piccola.
D: Ultimissima domanda, cosa consiglieresti a chi vuole realizzare qualcosa di grande nella vita?
K: Grande o piccolo, poco cambia: prendete un sogno, qualcosa che vi fa battere forte il cuore, che vi da energia, visualizzatelo, scrivetelo, parlatene a tutti. Poi prendete il coraggio a due mani e trasformate quel sogno nel più grande carburante della vostra vita, che sia l’adrenalina che vi tiene in vita, qualunque cosa sia. Una volta realizzato, festeggiate e ricominciate da capo, con un altro obiett… Ehm, Sogno.

After a while, we went to visit Kempes Astolfi again, a director, author, and entrepreneur living in Dubai. What leaves us astonished is how he manages to juggle it all with a nonchalant ease that, honestly, sometimes catches us off guard. Kempes, who has been writing and telling stories since he was twelve, confesses that his biggest artistic dream is about to come true. Being unconventional can be a risk, but also a great responsibility for those who decide to make it a lifestyle. Original, often unique, not cliché at all… Does it really change much: doing business abroad today with an eye on ambition and art, never losing sight of dreams that turn into goals and hitting some of them… Can it really be done?
D: So, does famous multitasking really exist? K: (smiles, note) No, multitasking doesn’t exist. Or rather, the ability to do multiple things simultaneously in the literal sense doesn’t exist. But let’s expand time and broaden the concept to, let’s say, the ability to handle many tasks, different operations in a short period, switching without losing focus… Well, in that case, multitasking exists. It’s like entering a room, turning on the light, quickly getting what you need without wasting time, then turning off the light as you leave, maybe taking a few steps in the dark, already knowing where to enter the next room, and turning on the light again, starting all over, but in a new context and with new things to do.
D: A writer’s comparison. Who has inspired you so much? And, speaking of writing and creativity, how are the new projects going? Any new books on the horizon? You celebrated ten years as a writer in December ’23. In this decade of literary career, you have published fifteen books, some translated into other languages… What does this milestone represent for you, and what are your plans for the future? K: Ten years of writing represent an incredible journey for me, not just in terms of books but personal and professional growth. Each work is a piece of me that I leave to the readers. As for the future, I have ambitious projects in store, several books coming out, and especially my first film, ‘Dreaming Quentin,’ which is an exciting new challenge. And then, who knows? Writing, at times, is a journey without a precise destination, and I’m ready to be surprised.
D: Since our last meeting in 2019, among other things, you launched a writing course in Dubai, ‘Writing: User Manual,’ a great success. What prompted you to take this initiative, and what results have you achieved? K: The idea of ‘Writing: User Manual’ stems from my passion for storytelling and the desire to share this love with others. Dubai turned out to be the perfect fertile ground for this project, attracting students from every corner of the world. The success was such that we repeated the course for two consecutive years, creating a real community of emerging writers. It was an incredibly gratifying experience, surpassing all my expectations.
D: We were very struck by this aspect, emphasized at the beginning of two of your books: during the pandemic, you turned the discovery of the social audio Club House into a unique opportunity, giving rise to two books, ‘If I Could Be Infinite’ Volume 1 and 2. Can you tell us more about how this idea was born and the impact it had? K: Club House was a revelation for me. In a time of forced distance, this platform allowed me to connect with people in a deep and meaningful way. ‘If I Could Be Infinite’ comes from these connections: it’s a collection of reflections and motivational messages that I wanted to share with a wider audience. The response was extraordinary, so much so that we decided to translate the volumes into English as well. It was a confirmation of the power of words to unite and inspire, even in the darkest moments. After Volume II, there are more volumes planned, with messages that boost your spirits: I am just the power outlet, you plug in, refresh, and recharge by reading what no one else would ever tell you.
D: Let’s go back to cinema. Talking about ‘Dreaming Quentin,’ your first cinematic project, what can you tell us about this adventure? K: ‘Dreaming Quentin’ is a dream coming true. We’ve been working behind the scenes on this film, along with Hermes Production and Cristiano Sebastianelli, for a long time. The creation of this gem, seeing it come to life despite all the difficulties and (sometimes absurd) characters encountered along the way, is an experience that exceeds every expectation. Without revealing too much, I can say it will be a film that speaks to the heart, addressing equal opportunities and the realization of dreams, combining a passion for cinema with that for storytelling. It’s a project that will make a lot of noise, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.
D: Your life between Italy and Dubai seems to be a perfect balance. How do you keep the connection with your roots alive while embracing such a different reality? K: My heart is divided between two worlds: Italy, with its traditions and culture, and Dubai, a symbol of innovation and international openness. It’s not so much about balancing as it is about integrating these two aspects of my life. Dubai offers me the space to express my creativity in ways that might be unthinkable in Italy, but it’s Italy that provides me with the roots and values on which to build what I do in the Emirates. And here, the satisfactions are many: I will soon speak as a speaker at various live events and… You know what?
D: What? K: I believe certain things like smiles, harmony, creativity are contagious. Just like word of mouth: people have heard about what I’m doing with my live appearances as a speaker, and they are inviting me, like a chain, even in Italy. And so, a continuous word of mouth from the readers or fans of my books, or with the works of Blues Impulse and my other entrepreneurial activities.
D: Speaking of other entrepreneurial activities. Rumors that reached Italy have struck us, and honestly, they were what brought us back to you when we found out that you were also involved in this project: there are whispers that an Italian gelateria is making waves in Dubai, offering top-quality gelato: La Casa del Gelato has become a reference point in Dubai. What is the secret of its success, and what’s your role in it? K: Together with my two partners, Roberta and Luca, we opened La Casa del Gelato, serving authentic artisanal gelato in Dubai, following the recipes of the old family business, open from 1936 until recently in Italy. The extraordinary public response is proof that bringing a piece of Italy to the world is always a good idea. The secret lies in quality, authenticity, and, of course, passion. Every gelato we serve is an invitation to discover true Italian flavors, and it’s rewarding to see customers of all nationalities appreciate our offering. Even the recognition of having a top brand like Bulgari as a customer is confirmation that we are doing things right.
D: Let’s wrap up as we started: books, cinema, Casa del Gelato, marketing and communication activities with Blues Impulse, the clients you manage in the Emirates and Italy. Are you sure multitasking doesn’t exist?
Before answering, I almost forgot to mention that I always thank my fellow adventurers without whom none of this would have been possible in every field I pursue: collaborators, friends, everyone who makes it possible for me to do it all. And to answer your question, no, multitasking doesn’t exist, I confirm. Just organize yourself and know how to flick the right switches at the right time, right after turning off others. And complete everything you start, even the small things.
D: One last question, what would you advise someone who wants to achieve something great in life? K: Whether it’s big or small, it doesn’t matter much: grab a dream, something that makes your heart beat fast, gives you energy, visualize it, write it down, talk about it to everyone. Then, seize the courage with both hands and turn that dream into the greatest fuel of your life, be it the adrenaline that keeps you alive, whatever it may be. Once achieved, celebrate and start all over again, with another goal… Uh, Dream.
