Manca meno di un mese all’uscita di Distractions, l’ultimo album del gruppo canadese Random Recipe, che arriva a questo disco dopo Kill the Hook (2013) e Fold It! Mold It! (2010). La data dell’uscita fissata in Italia è quella del 6 aprile 2018, con un ricco tour che avverrà nella nostra penisola. Frannie, Fab e Liu-Kong potranno così fare conoscere nel nostro Paese il loro particolare sound, ora arricchito di pop, rap, funk ed electro. I brani presentati sono otto (Fight the Feeling, MMXVIII, Hearts in Pain, Strawberry, Daiquiri, Hey Boy, This Mess, ANXT, Out of the Sky – questo, un pezzo funk, è il primo singolo uscito, che ci parla di un personaggio che certo non ci lascia nell’indifferenza: un travestito e gigolò attraverso il quale si celebrano la vita, la diversità e l’originalità, concetti che troppo spesso si trovano emarginati-), tutti collegati da una tematica precisa, che è quella della condizione femminile, indagando il ruolo della donna nella musica, parlando della sua condizione sociale e politica, facendolo in modo pungente, attraverso l’incisiva voce delle due cantanti. Già il titolo dell’album è di per sé dissacrante, Distractions infatti sta per quella che viene definita l’era dell’entertainment, del sovraccarico di informazioni e delle soddisfazioni effimere. Era in cui si dimenticano quelle che invece sono le problematiche veramente fondamentali e dove l’apparenza dell’immagine ha preso il sopravvento sulla riflessione approfondita.
Si tratta di una sonorità sperimentale e alternativa, forse non apprezzabile da tutti, ma vale la pena ascoltarla e l’opportunità potrebbe avvenire proprio in una delle tante date italiane proposte.
